Barbara Alison Serhal, 84, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 12:40 am in her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Michigan City Christian Church, 11232 W. Earl Road, Michigan City, IN with Pastor Kim Cole officiating. Private burial will take place. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm -8:00 pm, Friday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN and from 10:00 am until service time Saturday at Michigan City Christian Church.

She was born January 8, 1932 in Syracuse, Kansas to the late Frank and Velda (Alison) Simmons. On June 19, 1954 in Michigan City, IN she married Ernest "Ernie" Serhal who survives in Michigan City, IN.

Also surviving are two daughters, Val (Van) Pudlo of Trail Creek, IN and Enise Grooms of Atlanta, GA; two sons, Al (Patty) Serhal of Grayson, KY and David (Fiance, Dana Rankin) Serhal of Fort Pierce, FL; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Frankie Ruth Faull and Jacquelyn West; and her son-in-law, Mike Grooms.

Barbara was a member of Michigan City Christian Church and attended Ozark Bible College. She taught Sunday School for over 50 years and art at Michigan City High after school program and was also a volunteer at Westville Correctional Center. Barbara also received the J.C. Penny Golden Rule Award.
