John Davenport Carroll, 59, Michiana Shores, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at 6:40 pm in , Michiana Shores, Indiana
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 1010 Moore Road, Long Beach, IN with Rev. Keith McClellan officiating. A reception will immeidatly follow services at the Duneland Inn, 3311 Pottawattomie Trail, Michigan City, Indiana. Arrangements are being handled by the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana.
He was born January 15, 1957 in Chicago, Illinois to the John D. and Lillian J. (Williams ) Carroll who survive Highwood, Illinois. On July 8, 2016 in Chicago, Illinois he married Victoria Priola who also survives along with daughter, Megan Kulick; son, Matt Carroll; sisters Ann Zavala, Mary Tunnicliff, Julie Sill and Colleen Witt; brothers, Howard and Tim and a granddaughter.
John grew up in the Long Beach and Michigan City area. After graduating from what was then Elston High School there, he went to Purdue University, where he got a degree in hotel and restaurant management. He soon moved to Chicago, where he went to work for Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises. In the 1990s he joined Chicago magazine as ad director. He later became publisher of the magazine, the position he held when he left Chicago in early 2004 to join the Kongs at Modern Luxury, the publisher of a number of city and special interest magazines.
