Mary "Jo" Josephine Vine
March 1, 1926 - January 24, 2023
Mary "Jo" Josephine Vine, 96, of Long Beach, Indiana, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 24, 2023 in her home.
Jo was born March 1, 1926, in Marsalltown, Iowa, to the late Harry and Marguerite (Hart) Brennan.
She is survived by her son, Daniel B. (Kim Perry) Vine of St. George, UT; daughter, Kathleen A.Vine of Long Beach, IN; three grandchildren, Mary (Cory) Sherratt, Alex Lopez Vine, and Erin Lopez and their father, Ruben Lopez; one step-grandchild, Tyler (Chloe) Perry; two great-grandchildren, Jameson Sherratt and Aspen Sherratt; and a large white cat, Henry.
Jo moved with her family to Michigan City, Indiana at a young age. She graduated early from St. Mary’s High School and worked as a telephone operator during WWII. A few years later she became one of the first X-Ray technicians. During this time she met her late husband Daniel James Vine who she married in 1952 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. They moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1957 and started a new chapter raising their two children. Jo dedicated countless hours to the American Cancer society of Arizona, holding a prominent leadership position. Golfing was one of Jo’s main passions. She belonged to clubs in both Indiana and Arizona, but her favorite course was Spyglass Hill in Pebble Beach. Her golfing achievements included the Long Beach Club Championship in 1992 and six holes-in-one. Her deep devotion to family, elegant aura, and scintillating wit will be dearly missed.
"There once was a girl named Josie who’s outlook on life was quite rosy. At golf she would win by putting it in, but had six tee shots go straight in the holsie.”
