Dennis D. Phillips, 74, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Friday, November 19, 2021 at 3:48 am in his home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN with  Ericka Parkinson Kilbourne officiating. Entombment will follow in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be from 9:00 am - 11:00 am, Wednesday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel.    

He was born May 8, 1947 in Corning, AR to the late Edward and Ethel (Nicholson) Phillips. On June 29, 1968 in he married Sandra Cavin who survives in Michigan City, IN.

Also surviving are a daughter, Missy Bennett of Michigan City, IN; grandchild, Rae Bennett of Michigan City, IN; brother, Larry  Phillips of Jonesboro, AR; and cousin, Jerry (Helen) Nicholson of Stevensville, MI.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Michael and Aaron Phillips.   

Dennis worked at Bethlehem Steel and stayed on 47 years through ownership changes. During his years he served as union president of Local 9144. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of Vietnam. He was the Director of the I-C Baseball league and the Woodruff & Son's coach, a Past President of the Michigan City Park Board for which they honored his fight for the building of the Michigan City Senior Center and Patriot Park where the entrance drive of Patriot Park is named after him. Dennis enjoyed traveling and was a avid lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and was thrilled with a Word Series win. He was a loving husband, father and grandpa. He was a generous and helpful to his friends and family and especially doting toward his grandpup Sherlock.
