Bernard P. Smith, 73, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at 11:02 am in his home.

Private services were conducted. Burial took place in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN handled arrangements.    

He was born February 4, 1949 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Edward and Julia (Gondek) Smith.

Surviving are two nieces, Deborah Stranad of Michigan City, IN and Leigh  Taylor of Colorado; two nephews, Andrew Smith of Albuquerque, NM and Timothy Smith of Washington, MI; great-niece, Laci (Dustin) Helterbrand; and great-great-nephew, Kade Helterbrand.

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Stephansen; brother, Bob Smith; and nephew, Terry Stephansen. 

Bernard retired as a welder at Jet Fabricators and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, riding his motorcycle, mowing grass and helping family and friends.
