Algimantas Galinis, M.D., 81, Mill Creek, Indiana, formerly of Long Beach, Indiana passed away Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 12:35 pm in his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 22, 2021 at St. Ann of the Dunes Catholic Church, 433 E.. Golfwood Rd., Beverly Shores, Indiana. Private burial will take place in St. Casimir Lithuanian Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois. Visitation from 10:30 am - 11:00 am Saturday at the church. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, Indiana is handling arrangements.
He was born January 1, 1940 in Dotnuva, Lithuania to the late Juozas and Zuzana (Arlavskas) Galinis. In 1967 in Washington, DC he married his former spouse Aldona (Malenas) Galinis who resides in Gulf Breeze, Florida. On October 1, 2011 he married Amy (Dailey) Kienitz Galinis who survives in Mill Creek, Indiana. Also surviving are two sons, Darius Galinis of Beaverton, Oregon, Andrius J. (Kathleen) Galinis, M.D. of Pensacola, Florida; two step-daughters Kara (Charles) Kienitz Front-Flanagan and Elyse Kienitz; step-son, Jerod (Abbie) Kienitz two grandchildren, Ava May Galinis, Isabella Marie Galinis and two step-grandchildren, Helena Jane Front and Henri Benjamin Front; two cousins, Jura Galinis and Giedre Pincyla along with his feline pet "Bootsie".
Dr. Galinis attended St. Anthony Grade School in Cicero, Illinois and Lemont High School in Lemont, Illinois. In 1958 he entered The University of Chicago and graduated in 1962. He graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1966. From 1967 to 1970 he served in the US Navy as a Naval Flight Surgeon based in Pensacola, Florida with a rank of Lieutenant Commander and honorably discharged in 1970. In 1970, he moved to Long Beach, Indiana and joined the Michigan City Medical Group as a General Practice Physician where he remained 33 years until his retirement in 2003. During his practice years he was a member of the La Porte County Medical Society, Indiana State Medical Association, Past President (1979) and Board of Director - Memorial Hospital, Past President (1990) and Board of Director - St. Anthony Hospital along with a member of the St. Anthony Hospital Credentials Committee, American Medical Association and American Board of family practice 1976 - 2004. The family would like to acknowledge Heart to Heart Hospice staff especially Abby, Kristen, Paul, Dawn, Robin and Lela for all their love, support and compassionate care given to Dr. Galinis and his family.
