William "Bill" R. Shaver Sr.

William "Bill" R. Shaver Sr., 94, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 3:00 am in, Michigan City, Indiana.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Burial will follow in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City, Indiana. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana is handling arrangements.    

He was born January 13, 1927 in Chicago, IL to the late Raymond M. and Gladys P. (Reid) Shaver. The family moved to Michigan City, IN when he was 2 years. On October 14, 1972 in Lansing, Illinois  he married Florence A. (Nowfel) Shaver who preceded February 3, 2019.

Surviving are son, William (Wendy) Shaver Jr. of Michigan City, IN; daughter, Nancy Kendall of Ellenton, FL; 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son, John Shaver.   

William was an Elston High School graduate of the class of 1944. He later went on to serve in the United States Army during WWII and served in the occupying forces in Japan after the war. He attended Purdue University, Colgate College, and the University of Illinois at Chicago earning a mechanical engineer degree and achieving his Professional Engineers certification. He spent his career in the railroad industry with Pullman Standard and Miner Enterprises, before forming his own company, Rail Car Design, Inc. which he operated until his retirement.
