Vernice V. West, 91, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at 3:15 pm in her home in Michigan City, Indiana.

A private burial will be held in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City, IN. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana is handling arrangements.

She was born December 25, 1928 in Alicia, Arkansas to the late Jack and Anna (Holloway) Porterfield. On September 4, 1943 in Arkansas she married George D. West who preceded October 1, 1993.

Surviving are four daughters, Alice (Jim) Gayheart of Michigan City, IN, Carolyn (Wayne) Vanek of Dresser, WI, Brenda West of Michigan City, IN, Phyllis Kumar of Michigan City, IN; nine grandchildren, Kimberly, Anthony, James Paul, Trina, Shad, Brett, Penny, Melissa, Rajiv; 5 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; She was preceded in death by her son, Danny West; three sisters, Jelois West, Essie Watson, Inez Stoots; brother, Neal Porterfield.

Vernice enjoyed and became very good at playing solitaire and other various games. She also enjoyed traveling with her family.
