Tom Wood, 66, of LaPorte, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, January 3, at 1:42 pm at Franciscan Hospital Michigan City, IN after a 10-month battle with cancer.

He was born September 10, 1957, a twin, in Michigan City, IN to the late Clem and LaVonne (Peters) Wood.  Tom graduated from Elston High School in 1975 and went on to work at Weil-McLain for 40 years.  Holding various jobs during his long tenure, he was most known for his carpentry and work in the Building & Grounds Department.  He made many friends throughout his career and was known as a loyal and committed employee.

On October 17, 1987, in Michigan City, IN Tom married Penny (Granacki) Wood, who preceded him in death on December 9, 2015.  Penny was the love of Tom’s life and with their marriage came a large circle of family and friends who remained with Tom until the end.

Tom is survived by his daughter Jessica (Paul) Hobbs, of Denver, CO, his stepdaughter Nancy (Jason) Grace of Westville, IN, stepson Tony (Tricia) Grace of Bristol, IN; grandchildren, T.J., Cody (Courtney), Mariane, Josh (Hannah), Lily, Kyle, Laura, Lucy and Maggie; great-grandchildren, Ava (his ‘angel’), Bryson and Remi; his older brother Danial (Becky) Wood of LaPorte, IN, his younger sister Kristin Fuller of Michigan City, IN; nephews Kyle (Larry) Wood of Chicago, IL, and Jason (Kimberly) Wood of LaPorte, IN and niece Kelly Wood of Michigan City, IN.  He is also survived by many extended family members, including Debbie (Tommy) Floyd, Nancy Jean (John) Vega, Pat Granacki, and Edward 'Butchie' Granacki all of Michigan City, IN.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Tom was preceded in death by his twin brother, Tim Wood and his nephew, Clinton Wood.

Tom was a big Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Cubs fan.  He enjoyed working in his yard and with his hands.  He loved dogs and had many throughout his lifetime, most recently his outspoken Australian Shepherd, Kacie.  Tom was a fan of classic rock music from the 70s and 80s and was a lifelong fan of the Beatles, always claiming George Harrison as his favorite.  He had recently recovered an old organ and would play ‘Hey Jude’ on it from time to time.  He was a reflective and quiet man with a big heart.
