Theodore Woodfield Obituary

Theodore "Ted" Robert Woodfield

Theodore (“Ted”) Robert Woodfield was born in Lafayette, Indiana to Wilbur Leroy and Edna Fern (Powell) Woodfield on February 14,1936. He graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School and Purdue University, majoring in Chemical Engineering. During his years at Purdue, he enjoyed playing clarinet in the Purdue All American Marching Band and the Symphonic Concert Band.
On February 2, 1958, he married the “most wonderful girl in the world,” Marlene Joyce Brown at the First Baptist Church in Lafayette. They moved to Michigan City, Indiana later that year to begin his career and raise their family, including their children Debra and Todd.

Ted held various positions with Arno Adhesive Tapes, Inc., including Technical Director and Plant Manager. Later, he was employed in sales roles with Midwest Rubber Mixing of Barberton, Ohio and Specialty Products of Niles, Michigan. He and Marlene founded Children’s Village Nursery School, and he served as its treasurer for 26 years.
Ted was a member of First United Methodist Church in Michigan City since 1958, and served as an usher, counter, and on many committees. He was the past president of the West Michigan Rubber Group and was active in other rubber groups including the Chicago and Fort Wayne Groups. He was also the past president of the Michigan City Zoological Society and the Rogers High School Athletic Booster Club, as well as a member of the Michigan City Lions Club.

Ted was an avid sports fan, particularly enjoying Purdue football and basketball, the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, and Indy car racing. He will be remembered for his uncanny ability to recall incredible facts, scores, game details, players, and trivia for all his favorite teams!

Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Marlene; two children, Deb (Bill) Krause of Mound, MN and Todd (Debra) Woodfield of High Springs, FL; grandchildren Marin Krause of St. Louis Park, MN, Leah (Michael) Jordan of Shoreview MN, and KaylaMarie (Connor) Jones of Chamblee, GA;  beloved great-grandsons, Dominic, Vincent, and Simon Jordan; sister-in-law Rosalie (Nathan) Wilson; niece and nephews Rob (Jane Tompkin) Smith, Rob (Diana) Wilson, Nathana (Pat) Jarboe, and Jeremy (Stephanie) Wilson, as well as other loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Doris Smith.
In his final days, Ted was comforted by listening to traditional church music.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday afternoon, September 28 at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church and will feature singing of some of his favorite hymns.
