Sylvia J. (Firanek) Kniola

Sylvia J. Kniola, 83, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at 4:25 pm in Aperion Care-Michigan City, Michigan City, Indiana.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm, Monday, June 1, 2020 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN with Rev. Walter Ciesla officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Michigan City, Indiana. Visitation will be from 11:00 am -12:00 pm, Monday, June 1, 2020 at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel.

She was born May 17, 1937 in Pine Township, IN to the late Steve and Sophie (Golombiewski) Firanek. On January 4, 1958 in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Otis, Indiana she married Louis Kniola Jr.who preceded April 13, 1998.

Surviving are four sisters, Evelyn Weiss of Michigan City, IN, Delores (Robert) Bacon of La Porte, IN, Frances (Robert "Wayne") Watson of Westville, IN, Connie (Richard) Sobieski of Michigan City, IN; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by son, Douglas Kniola; brother, Eugene Firanek; two sisters, Elenore Hayduk, Josephine Joens.

Sylvia retired in 2002 after working 22 years as a sewing room supervisor at Filter Specialist. Prior to Filter Specialist she worked at Eastmoor Slack Factory in Michigan City. She was a lifelong member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and the VFW Post 2536 Women's Auxiliary in Michigan City.
