Susan J. Payton, 72, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Monday, January 29, 2024 at 5:51 pm in Life Care Center of Michigan City.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.    

She was born December 9, 1951 in Michigan City, IN to the late Richard C. and Beverly (Easterday) Collins. On December 10, 1988 in Michigan City, IN she married Grant Payton who survives in Michigan City, IN.

Also surviving are her son, Michael Payton of Michigan City, IN; granddaughter, MiTasia Payton of Michigan City, IN; sister, Sandra Nickerson of Michigan City, IN; and brother, Richard (Donna) Collins of La Porte, IN.

She was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Charles Nickerson.  

Susan retired after 37 years as respiratory therapist at St. Anthony's Hospital. Susan loved being a grandmother. She also loved shopping, cooking, baking and watching the golden girls and soap operas. Her favorite drink was coke, but helping others was her greatest quality and that is why she worked at the hospital for so long.
