September 18, 1962 - September 9, 2023

Steven P. Griffin, age 60, passed away at the Center for Hospice, Mishawaka, IN after a 6 year battle with Early Onset Alzheimer’s Dementia.  

Steven is survived by his wife, Carol, two children: Jonathan (Kayla) Griffin of San Diego, CA and Nicole (Jacob) Raupp of La Porte, IN.  He also leaves behind two granddaughters, Jillian Griffin and Freya Griffin.

Steven is preceded in death by his father, Perry Griffin and mother, Patricia Griffin.  He is also survived by his brothers: Michael (Terri) Griffin of Michigan City, IN, Robert (Shannon) Griffin of Haines City, FL, and Daniel (Karen) Griffin of La Porte, IN and his sisters: Cheryl Garrett of Sumiton, AL, and Pamela (Phillip) Lavender of Clanton, AL.

Steven proudly retired from the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Iraq War.  Steven served with the 2nd Armored Division, Military Police, Ft. Hood Texas, and also with the 308th Civil Affairs Brigade, IL. He retired with the rank of Staff Sergeant.  

He grew up in Michigan City, IN and returned to Michigan City after his military service to raise his children.  He worked for the State of Indiana Department of Corrections for over 20 years (Camp Summit Boot Camp, Westville Correctional Center and as the Safety Hazmat Manager for the Indiana State Prison).

In accordance with Steven’s wishes, a private family service will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.
