Robert T. Dempsey

July 31, 1928 - May 9, 2020

Robert T. Dempsey, 91, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2020 at 8:43 am in Franciscan Health - Michigan City.

Private family services will be conducted. Burial will take place in Green Hills Cemetery, Columbia City, IN. A celebration of life gathering will be announced at a later date. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.

He was born July 31, 1928 in Marion, IN to the late Roy and Mary (Boyd) Dempsey. On November 11, 1950 in Columbia City, IN he married Norma Jeanne Bowlby who preceded him on September 1, 1996. He then married Ruth Clow who preceded him in 2017.

Surviving are a daughter, Bonnie (Stephen) Hart of Mishawaka, IN; son, Michael Dempsey of Michigan City, IN; two grandchildren, Robert (Heather) Hart of Lafayette, IN and Ryan (Brittany) Hart of Osceola, IN; four great-grandchildren, Lucas, Dylan, Cody and August; sister-in-law, Judy Dempsey of Grand Junction, CO; two nieces, Ani Wood and Cindy (Terry) Dietz; and four nephews, Steve, Brian and Mark Dempsey and Steve (Suzanne) Deubner.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, John "Jack" Dempsey.

Robert retired after 30 years as Manager of Western Union. After retirement he worked at the News Dispatch in the advertising department and as a sports writer. Robert also owned the ADVOK advertising agency which took him to the Grand Ole Opry interviewing all of the performers. His favorite interview was with Red Skelton. He was a member of Dewart Lake Community Friends Church, Syracuse, IN. Robert enjoyed fishing and Purdue sports. He also was a 69 year 3rd Degree Master Mason being raised in 1951.
