Rita May Michalak, 87, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024 at 11:10 p.m. in Miller's Health & Rehab, La Porte, Indiana.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, February 23, 2024 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN with Pastor David Solum officiating. Entombment will follow in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral chapel.

She was born on November 19, 1936, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Frank Alexander and Marie (Salat) Milcarek. On September 8, 1956, in Otis, Indiana, she married Peter Michalak, who preceded her in death September 18, 2013.

Surviving are three daughters, Diana Ertle of Denver, Colorado, Andrea Golliff and Valerie (John) Pavolka all of Michigan City, Indiana; twelve grandchildren, Katrina (Codey) Spear of Kentland, Indiana, Kason (Audrieanna) Kubik of La Porte, Indiana, Justin (Heidi) Pavolka of New Buffalo, Michigan, Josh Pavolka of La Porte, Indiana, Hannah (Andrew) Williams of Michigan City, Indiana, John Pavolka and Jesse Pavolka both of Michigan City, Indiana, Rebecca Lee, Matthew Ertle, Ryan Ertle, Jessica Ertle all of Colorado, and Joshua (Jessica) Golliff of Pleasant Lake, Indiana; and 15 great-grandchildren, Gracelyn and Xavier Pavolka of La Porte, Indiana, Selah Williams of Michigan City, Indiana, Keziah Kubik of La Porte, Indiana, Juliet, Lillian, and Bella Hernandez all of Colorado, Osias Ertle of Colorado, Ethan, Emily, Everit, Ellie, and Easton Golliff all of Pleasant Lake, Indiana, Donovan Kussart, and Annabelle Gross both of New Buffalo, Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Michael and Thomas Michalak; one sister, Barbara Volkmann; and son-in-law, Bruce Golliff.

Rita was a devoted homemaker, who was an exceptionally, dear, sweet, loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was the kind of grandmother you wish you could have. Her world revolved around her belief system and her love for family. Rita formerly attended St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, as she was raised up with Catholic beliefs. Rita was crafty and a true homemaker, who loved tending to her flowers and house plants, and held a talent in cooking and baking. She was once a member of the Extension Homemaker Club through Purdue North Central. Rita will be truly missed by all.
