Randy J. Dompke, 68, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at 11:48 am in Franciscan Health - Michigan City.

There will be a celebration of life gathering on Saturday, July 19th at American Legion Post 37, 756 US 20, Michigan City, IN from 2:00 to 6:00 pm. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.

He was born January 8, 1957 in Michigan City, IN to the late Joseph and Virginia (Albano) Dompke.

Surviving are two brothers, Garrett (Cristy) Dompke of Michigan City, IN and Scott Dompke of Bloomington, IN; niece, Andrea Dompke; two nephews, Joey Dompke and Rudy Dompke; and four great-nieces, Amiah, Alicia, Jazmyne and Natalia.

Randy worked in the family business, Benny's Restaurant and in the food industry in Chicago, Detroit and Las Vegas. He bought Weidner's Tavern in his mid-20’s and owned a house at Stop 20 in Long Beach at the time. He was a partner in North Franklin Bistro (now Leeds Public House) and club manager at the St. Joseph Young Men's Society. He loved Formula One and moderated the races on the breakfast shift at Three Sheets Bar and Grill for several years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a former member of the St. Joseph Young Men's Society and the NRA. Randy enjoyed golfing, baseball, gardening, going to the beach and buying gifts for people. He was also an avid Chicago Bears, Cubs and Blackhawks fan.

Randy was a working man’s working man. He held steady jobs, from the age of 16 at the Check’rd Flag in Marquette Mall to his recent retirement. He owned a Porsche 912 in high school and gave his younger brother and his buddy rides to school every day. Naturally, they were ejected from the vehicle upon entering the parking lot. He reluctantly parted with the car decades later.

He enjoyed trips to the Indy 500, arranged by his dad, Joe Dompke. All those lucky enough to participate in the 500 Mile Race extravaganza remember it fondly--from what they recall. The bus departed Benny’s at 3 am, there was breakfast at the Antelope Club in Indy at 7 and a police escort to the track at 9. Recollections after the race tend to fade.

His numerous friends will recall the generosity and support he showed them over the years. He had a remarkable ability to purchase unique and meaningful gifts for those he cared about. These will be missed by his family and friends.
