Randal Joseph Wildhart
November 12, 1946 - July 5, 2024 

Randal Joseph Wildhart, 77, La Porte, Indiana, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2024 at 10:42 p.m. in Northwest Health - Porter, Valparaiso, Indiana.

No services will be held. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington Street, Michigan City, Indiana is handling the arrangements.

He was born on November 12, 1946, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Joseph James and Lois (Hoffman) Wildhart. On June 21, 2006, in St. Joseph, Michigan, he married Bozena (Wrobel) (Slusarczyk) Wildhart, who survives in La Porte, Indiana.

Also surviving are his two daughters, Kelly Usmen and Karie (James) Venice, both of Michigan City, Indiana; two step-sons, Martin Slusarczyk and Luke Slusarczyk, both of Chicago, Illinois; two brothers, Dennis (Sheila) Wildhart of La Porte, Indiana and James Wildhart of Lakeland, Florida; four grandchildren, Ian Wright, James Venice, Zaane Usmen and Marika Slusarczyk; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Michael Wildhart; and one sister-in-law (James's wife), Sharon Wildhart. 

Randy graduated in 1965 from Elston High School and was known for his talent playing Varsity baseball and football.  He was a excellent hand ball player and played many sports. Randy was a war hero who honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps. While serving, he earned his rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Vietnam Service Metal with Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Metal, and the Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V". Randy seen plenty of action in the Vietnam War as a loader aboard one of the 52-ton medium tanks of the 3rd Tank Battalion. His tank platoon with a infantry squad was sent out to occupy a key outpost. The mission was to keep Viet Cong troops off the river. The Viet Cong opened fired and Randy's quick thinking and cool courage saved the lives of his fellow Marines and the outpost still belonged to the Marines.

Randal was a longtime member of St. John's United Church of Christ. Him and his wife was very involved in many organizations within the community, VFW Post 2536, American Legion Skwiat Post 451, Moose Family Center 980, and D.A.V., Michigan City. Randal retired in 2009 from Bethlehem Steel (BOF Plant.) Bozena and him enjoyed traveling overseas and to many cities in the United States. Randy was a avid fisherman.
