Poknam Novak, aged 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. 

Born on February 23, 1931, in Kyoto, Japan, she lived a life full of love, strength, and kindness.

At the age of 15, she moved to Korea, where she met her husband during the Korean War. They married and moved to the United States in 1967, eventually settling in Michigan City, Indiana, where they built a life together.

Poknam loved gardening, sewing, crocheting, and knitting, but she was best known for her amazing cooking. Her meals were the heart of family gatherings, bringing everyone together. Her food wasn’t just delicious-it was a way of showing love and care.

More than anything, she loved her family and treasured every moment with them. She passed down values of love, hard work, and kindness that will live on through her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and a loving extended family who will always cherish her memory.

A celebration of Poknam Novak’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN with Rev. John Scott officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral chapel. Family and friends are invited to come together, share memories, and honor her life. A private burial will take place in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Michigan City.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 1201 S. Franklin St., Michigan City, Indiana 46360, a cause close to her heart.

Poknam’s love and warmth will never be forgotten. She will be deeply missed but always remembered.
