She was a stay-at-home mother raising her six children until in 1973 she worked as a teacher's aide and secretary at Elston Junior High School. Her love for education drew her to attend Purdue University North Central Campus and received a Bachelor's in Elementary Education at age 45 and a Master's in Education. She taught at Joy, Marsh, Springfield, Jefferson and Knapp Elementary Schools for 16 years before retiring.

Nancy's passion and love of music continued throughout life. In 1947 while in 6th grade her father took her to Chicago where her prized dark wooden violin was purchased and has been played since in string quartets, the Duneland Chamber Ensemble, the B-Natural Trio, Elston High School musicals, at untold weddings, church, civic groups and nursing homes. Her favorite annual violin venue was Handel's "Messiah" at the Presbyterian Church beginning in 1968 thru 2018, 50 years! She also played hand chimes and hand bells at the Church of the Brethren and First United Methodist Church. She also participated in the Monday Musicale since the late 1960's and a longtime member of PEO Chapter BA in Michigan City.

Nancy served on numerous church committees, taught and participated in the Serendipity Bible Study at the Church of the Brethren where she and Robert joined in 1953. In 2000, they joined the First United Methodist Church in Michigan City where she was a member of the Hannah, Esther, and Ruth Circles and Secretary of United Methodist Women. In 1965, family camping in their first of several travel trailers began and memories were made at Indiana State Parks, Tennessee Great Smokey Mountains, Canada, and even to California in 1973. Until 2020, at age 85 and 89, Nancy and Robert camped regularly.
