Nancy Egan Obituary

Nancy Ann Egan, 68, Michigan City, Indiana, passed into the hands of God on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 12:45 pm in Franciscan Health - Michigan City, Indiana in the presence of some dear friends.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, 606 S. Woodland Ave., Michigan City, IN with Rev. Jordan Fetcko officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Kentland, Indiana. Visitation will be from 9:00 am -10:00 am, Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at the church. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana is handling arrangements.

She was born September 23, 1952 in Lafayette, Indiana to the late Richard and Eileen (Wagner) Egan and was preceded in death by her brother Michael Richard Egan.

Miss Egan, as she was known to her many students, taught math in the Michigan City Area Schools system. She made an impact at Elston Junior High School, Elston High School, and Michigan City High School over her 37 years, during which she helped so many students relate to and understand mathematics, and most particularly to understand algebra. Miss Egan touched many more student lives outside the high school classroom as a coach or assistant coach for girl's basketball and softball, and also as an assistant to her friends Cheryl Bohlim and Tim Bumber who were developing strong state contenders on their girl's cross country and track teams. In addition she was also a career member of the MCEA: she was a building rep and a multi term treasurer for the Association where she applied her math skills to bargaining with the team on behalf of her fellow teachers. Because her faith was a big part of her life, she was active in her church as a Eucharistic Minister and as part of the Parish Council at Sacred Heart until it was decommissioned and then at St. Mary's in the same roles. She enjoyed traveling and seeing new things, and she enjoyed the company of her many friends, Nancy will be remembered with love and appreciation by her many students, colleagues, friends, Lunch Bunchgroup, and cousins scattered far and wide.

Contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 411 W. 11th St. Michigan City, IN 46360 or to the Michigan City High School Booster Club.
