Monica Rae Whelan, 51, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Monday, June 14, 2021 at 9:23 pm in I.U. Health Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana.
A celebration of life gathering will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, July 3, 2021 at the D.A.V. Chapter #23, 2301 Ohio St., Michigan City, Indiana 46360. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana is handling arrangements.
She was born July 12, 1969 in Smyrna, TN to Michael and Janice (Whittenburg) Shock of Cassville, Missouri. On August 8, 1992 in Portage, Indiana she married Charles Whelan who survives in Michigan City, Indiana.
Also surviving are two sons, Richard (Sheena) Shock, Thomas Whelan; two daughters, Andrea (Adam) Schmaltz, Nichole (Josh) Hamby; seven grandchildren, Aislinn Fogus, Kai Schmaltz, Gabe Schmaltz, Scout Hamby, Bowie Hamby, Raelin Shock, Catherine Kabowski; brother, Keith Greasby, Jr.; three sisters, Jennifer Davis, Bobbie Osman, Billie Prather; two true best friends, Norman Bulakowski and Katie Maas. She was preceded in death by two step-fathers, Robert Howe, Keith Greasby, Sr.; sister, Sharon Gamez.
A truly giving soul, who loved without limits, welcomed anyone into her heart, her home, and her family, Monica was an exceptional woman who touched the lives of everyone she met. You could not meet her without a hug and a kiss on the cheek. She was active in the dart leagues in her hometown, she had worked at Sullair and Compressair, before becoming a stay at home mom during 2020. Words could never explain the impact that Monica left on everyone she met.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the Autism Society of America 4340 East-West Highway, Suite 350 Bethesda, MA 20814.
