Miroslava "Mirka" Kveton
March 28, 1929 - May 13, 2024
Miroslava “Mirka” Kveton, born on March 28, 1929 to Jan and Anna Kuchler, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2024 in Michigan City, Indiana.
Mirka was born and raised in Rokycany, Czechoslovakia with her sister, Vera. At age 18, she moved to London, England to work as a nanny. She met her first husband and had a son, John, and moved to the United States in 1954.
She later divorced and then remarried in 1961, to James Albert Kveton, settling in Cicero, Illinois, and welcomed their son, James Andrew.
Mirka was an extremely hard worker, having several jobs over her lifetime, working at Western Electric, Evans Furs, Marie’s Catering and McDonald's. She learned to knit and sew from her mother, who had her own dressmaking shop in Czechoslovakia. Mirka spent many hours creating doll clothes, baby outfits, sweaters, and most of her own wardrobe. In the summer, she spent many hours working in her yard, tending to her garden of flowers and vegetables.
Mirka was endeared to many with her smile and disposition. She’ll be missed by everyone who knew her. Mirka was one of a kind.
She is survived by her son, James Andrew (Cathy); grandchildren, Bradley (Madeline) and Carly (Nick); daughter-in-law, Leslie Kveton; and many nieces and nephews in the United States and Czech Republic.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Jan and Anna Kuchler; husband, James Albert Kveton; son, John Karl Kveton; and sister, Vera (Jarka) Pikova.
The family plans to hold a memorial gathering at a later date. Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Elmhurst Police Benevolent Athletic Association (EPBAA), 125 E First St, Elmhurst, IL 60126 or the charity of Donor's Choice.
