Mary C. Niec, 95, Michigan City, IN, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at 5:00 pm in Center for Hospice, Mishawaka, IN.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church Michigan City, IN at a later date. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling the arrangements.

She was born August 7, 1928 in Michigan City, IN to the late Leo and Camilla (Kelley) Schopp. On June 16, 1951 in Michigan City, IN she married Henry Niec who preceded her on July 5, 2005.

Surviving are two daughters, Connie (Sam) Mohamed of Michigan City, IN and Cindy (Mike) Daher of Aurora, CO; six sons, Jay (Judy) Niec of Michigan City, IN, Christopher (Denise) Niec of Carmel, IN, Chad (Carol) Niec of Palatine, IL, John (Michele) Niec of Antioch, TN, Joseph (Debbie) Niec of Westville, IN and James Niec of Chesterton, IN; 28 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and her brother-in-law, George Zwickl of Indianapolis, IN.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Jeanne Schultz; and sister, Patricia Zwickl.

Mary retired as an office clerk after 17 years at Carson Pirie Scott & Co. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Michigan City, IN. Mary enjoyed volunteering her time at St. Mary’s thrift shop, as well as baking, needle point, and reading. She also loved her four cats and the Raccoon that feasted on table scraps placed on the patio outside her sliding glass doors that she thought was a cat.
