Marie E. Heeren
September 16, 1924 - March 29, 2025
Marie E Heeren (Nee Schaefer), beloved wife of the late Richard C Heeren (Dick). Mother of Richard C Heeren Jr. (Rachel: Nee Herbst), Virginia Kobilca (Leonard F Kobilca, deceased), and David C Heeren (Annie: Nee Dolphin), passed away on March 29, 2025, at the age of 100, at her home in Michigan City, IN. Marie and Dick were married in 1944, when Dick was in the Army infantry during WW II. Their first child, Richard Jr, was born when Dick was on the front lines in the “Battle of the Bulge”.
Marie was the grandmother of 10, and great grandmother of 13. She loved being with her grandchildren. She also loved looking at her iPad that brought forth a steady stream of photos of her entire family.
Marie worked avidly for the family business, Arnold Heeren Photographers, Inc., using her artistic skills lettering photographs by hand. Subsequently, she worked in retail for Neiman Marcus, Liz Claiborne, and Saks Fifth Avenue, and helped to administer her son’s healthcare business (Richard Jr), then closed her career working at Data Card, a Minneapolis based manufacturer of credit cards.
Marie was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Lemont, IL, where she worshiped, and practiced her deep faith. She was an avid member of the “Quilting team”, providing bedding for families in need.
Marie was a perpetual optimist, always spreading love and encouragement to all those around her. Her positive attitude and goodwill will be part of the wonderful legacy she leaves for those who have survived her.
The family will hold a private celebration of Marie’s life sometime this summer.
