Lester Francis Nowatzke

Lester Francis "Les" Nowatzke, 82, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 10:23 pm in Franciscan Health - Michigan City, Michigan City, IN.
He was born on July 18, 1935 in Michigan City, Indiana to George and Anna (Dreyer) Nowatzke, who preceded him in death. He was also proceeded in death by his two former wives: Victoria "Mickey" Nowatzke and Lavada "Jean" Gosa, his three brothers: Raymond, Norman and Elmer and his sister, Joan "Dolly" Iseminger.
Lester is survived by his son, Mark (Sharon) Nowatzke of LaPorte, IN; his sister, Phyllis Carty of Michigan City, IN; and several nieces and nephews.
He was known for his friendly smile and generous heart; Lester never met a stranger. He loved fishing trips to Minnesota, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed watching sports of all kinds and was a fan of whatever team was winning. He was an avid canner and was famous for his homemade dill pickles and sauerkraut. Lester was a truck driver for Seneca and retired from the Michigan City Area Schools maintenance department. He was a faithful member of Queen of All Saints Catholic Church and the St. Joseph Young Men's Society.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, June 1, 2018 at Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, 606 S. Woodland Ave., Michigan City, IN with Rev. Kevin Huber officiating. Burial will follow in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm -7:00 pm, Thursday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN and from 9:15 am - 10:00 am Friday at the Queen of All Saints Legacy Center.
