Leo G. Firme
April 4, 1952 - March 4, 2025
Leo G. Firme, owner of Glenn L. Firme & Associates, died March 4, 2025, nearly 17 years after he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer.
Leo was born April 4, 1952, in Hammond, IN, the first of four sons, to Ellen (Halpin) and Glenn L. Firme. He grew up in Beverly Shores, IN, sailing and swimming in Lake Michigan, picking blueberries for his mother’s pies, and playing hockey on skating rinks that he and friends made in the wetlands.
In 1970, he graduated from Marquette High School and in 1983 from the American Conservatory of Music, with a Bachelor of Music degree. For more than 35 years, he served in music ministry at St. Ann of the Dunes Church.
On December 22, 1984, friends introduced him to Mary Fox, with whom he was quickly smitten and married on July 27, 1985. The couple soon moved to Trail Creek, where they reared their three sons, Glenn, Tom, and Patrick. Leo emphasized education with his sons, and in conversation interspersed facts about classical composers, jazz musicians, and Shakespeare.
He was both a connoisseur of food and a gourmet cook. He knew the excellent restaurants in the cities he visited and happily drove miles out of the way to bakeries.
Besides his wife and sons, Leo is survived by his brothers, Kevin, Beverly Shores; Ted (Egle), Ridgecrest, CA; and Dennis (Beverly), Manteo, NC; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, March 10, 2025 at St. Ann of the Dunes Catholic Church, 433 East Golfwood Road, Beverly Shores, IN with Rev. Jon Plavcan officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm -4:00 pm, Sunday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN and from 9:15 am - 10:00 am Monday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Share Foundation, PO Box 400, Rolling Prairie, IN, 46371.
