Kathleen S. Cavalenes, 74, Michigan City, IN, passed away Monday, May 18, 2026 at 5:24 am in Aperion Care Arbors -  Michigan City.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN with Brother Shaun Gray officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, Tuesday at the funeral chapel.    

She was born December 14, 1951 in Chicago, IL to the late Edward and Elizabeth (Hutton) Kopanski. On February 22, 1975 in Chicago, IL she married George Cavalenes who survives in Michigan City, IN.

Also surviving are her daughter, Cynthia (Michael) Maybury of Crest Hill, IL; son, George E. Cavalenes of Champaign, IL; grandchild, Michael C. Maybury of Crest Hill, IL; and her nephew who she raised, James E. Kopanski.

She graduated from Forman High School in 1969 and from Indiana University in 2010. Kathleen worked in various jobs as she always welcomed a new challenge and never retired as she enjoyed work. She taught CCD at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Lemont, IL and was active in Boy Scouts as well as Girl Scouts.
