Judith A. Smith, 85, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Friday, June 5, 2026, at 8:45 a.m. at Memorial Hospital of South Bend, South Bend, Indiana.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 2026, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 1506 Washington Street, Michigan City, Indiana, with Rev. Walter Ciesla officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2026, and from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana.

She was born December 19, 1940, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Joseph and Victoria (Pakuszewski) Quartuch. On June 28, 1968, in Michigan City, Indiana, she married Robert L. Smith Sr., who preceded her in death on May 11, 1991.

Surviving are her son, Steven (Cara) Smith of South Bend, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Smith of Rolling Prairie, Indiana; six grandchildren, Emily Smith, Lucy Smith, Robert Smith, Joseph Smith, Olivia Smith, and Gabriella Smith; and brother, Tom (Diane) Quartuch of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert L. Smith Sr.; son, Robert L. Smith Jr.; and brother, Joseph Quartuch.

Judith graduated from St. Mary's High School in Michigan City and later earned her master’s degree in education from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois. She retired in 2000 after a long career as a teacher for the Chesterton area school district. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

Judith loved to crochet and enjoyed sharing her handmade creations with others. Most of all, she treasured time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought great joy to her life.
