Juanita Honore Elkins

Juanita Honore Elkins, 87, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 5:20 a.m. in Trail Creek Place, Michigan City.
A service celebrating Juanita's life will be held at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Red Mill County Park, 0185 S. Holmesville Rd. La Porte, Indiana. Visitation will be from 3:30 p.m. until time of service Thursday at the park. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling the arrangements.
Juanita was born on December 10, 1937, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Everett L. and Norma (Sutherlin) Wardean. On September 23, 1966, in Michigan City, Indiana, she married Thurman E. Elkins, who preceded her in death on July 18, 1990.
Surviving are her daughter, Elizabeth (Bruce) Stahl of Michigan City, Indiana; one sister, Sarah (Robert) Lee; three grandchildren, Tyler Stahl, Spencer Stahl, and Parker (Gina) Stahl; one great-grandchild, Leona Stahl; and many dear nieces and nephews, including Suzie (George) Adey, Bob (Kelley) Cowden and Kate (AJ) Sobecki.
Juanita's son Scott was adopted at birth by her beloved Unlce Bud and Aunt Anna Sutherlin. He survives in Washington D.C. with his wife, Andrea and their children, Jordon Corulli, Thane Sutherlin, Austin Gouldin, and Riley Sutherlin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one sister, Darlene Cowden-Runion.
Juanita formerly attended Pines Bible Church. She retired as a transcriptionist from the former St. Anthony Hospital, Michigan City. Sometimes referred to as "Pooch" to family and "G" to her grandchildren and their friends. Juanita was considered the third parent and the best grandmother ever to Tyler, Spencer, and Parker, being involved in their daily lives and activities. Juanita always insisted she did in fact bowl a 300 game.
