John Wozniak Obituary

John P. Wozniak
December 26, 1939 - June 16, 2022

John Patrick Wozniak, 82, born December 26, 1939 in Michigan City, IN, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2022 at Hope Hospice in Fort Myers, FL. with his wife Marilyn and his grandson Edwin Staudt by his side.
John was the loving husband of Marilyn (Lasky) and was married for 57 years on June 12th. Father of Sharon (Eric) Staudt of Chestnut Hill, MA. Mary (Kerry) Stantz of LaPorte, IN. and Michelle (Frank) Shula of New Carlisle, IN. Grandchildren Jason (Caitlin) Terrey, EJ and Edwin Staudt and Carrie Ann Stantz and one great granddaughter Eleanor Terrey. Also surviving is his sister Joan Vrtis, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. John is also survived by his loving cat Charlie.

John grew up in Michigan City, IN and graduated from Elston High School in 1958. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving 4 years as an airplane mechanic from 1958-1962. After he left the Air Force, he became a data processor for IBM, working for Midwest Steel. John received his certification as a plumber and continued his education to become a union pipefitter with Chicago local #597, retiring in 2002. He also received his pilot’s license while working two jobs. John raced motorcycles in his younger days and won many awards. He was a member of the American Motorcycle Assoc. John also volunteered at the Lions Club in his late 60’s. Since he was one of the youngest volunteers, he was the one that they asked to move the heavy furniture down flights of steps. He was at the Lions for four years. All four of those years were NOT heavy lifting.
John loved his Corvettes and Cadillacs. He belonged to the Valpo Vette club and met many friends. John rode his Schwinn bicycle daily putting on over 15,000 miles, up until the day he was admitted to the hospital. John enjoyed the Indy 500, oldies music, and the warm weather of Florida.

John was a member of our Lady of Light Catholic Church in Estero, FL.

The family would like to thank the staff of Gulf Coast Medical Center and Hope Hospice for all the extraordinary care they gave John.
