Joan C. Bonfield Jarka, 84, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at 7:45 pm in Franciscan Health - Michigan City, Michigan City, Indiana.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Buffalo & 10th Streets, Michigan City, Indiana with Rev. David Kime, officiating. Private family entombment will take place in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Michigan City, Indiana. Visitation will be from 9:00 am -10:30 am, Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana.
She was born January 9, 1939 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Joseph and Helen (Mazzaia) Bonfield. On July 29, 1961 in Michigan City, Indiana she married James Joseph Jarka who preceded her in death on December 3, 2017.
Surviving are Three daughters, Karen (Jim) Wolf of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, Kimberly Cash of Michigan City, Indiana, and Debora (Ellis, Jr.) Kennedy of Channahon, Illinois; son, John (Christy) Jarka of Chesterton, Indiana; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; sister, Janet Todd of Stevensville, Michigan along with many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Sharon Bonfield of Placentia, California, Gail Bonfield of Michigan City, Indiana, and Karla Bonfield of Chesterton, Indiana; She was preceded in death by son-in-law, Barry Cash; three brothers, Richard Bonfield, Daniel Bonfield, and James Bonfield; sister-in-law, Judy Bonfield and brother-in-law, Al Todd;
Joan was a faithful member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Michigan City, Indiana supporting and assisting with many of the church programs. She volunteered for many organizations within the community. She was a member of the Senior Center of Washington Park and being a part of her Dominoes game group. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and attending her grandchildren's events. She was a talented seamstress making/sewing clothing for schools, weddings, proms and the community.
