Janet E. (Skierkowski) Edwards

Janet E. Edwards, 81, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 12:54 am at her daughters home surrounded by family in, La Porte, Indiana.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, January 29, 2021 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 1506 Washington Street, Michigan City, IN with  Rev. Walter Ciesla officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Michigan City, Indiana. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm -7:00 pm, Thursday, January 28, 2021 and from 8:30 am - 9:30 am Friday, January 29, 2021 at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana. The rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm Thursday, January 28, 2021 at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel.      

She was born December 13, 1939 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Joseph V. "Jim" and Helen E. (Milcarek) Skierkowski. On October 22, 1966 in Michigan City, Indiana she married Albert "Jack" Edwards who preceded June 12, 1981.

Surviving are son, Michael (Kristie) Edwards of Wilmette, IL; two daughters, Gail (Jeffery) Koon of La Porte, IN, Lynn Edwards of Las Vegas, NV; seven grandchildren, Jackson Edwards, Lucas Hobart, Kathryn Edwards, Emily  Hobart, Clayton Edwards, Gavin Koon, Gage Koon; two step-grandchildren, Rebecca Koon, Joshua Koon; four sisters, Sister Helen Marie Skierkowski, SSND of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Barbara Skierkowski of Michigan City, Indiana, Mary Jo (Victor) Carmona of Columbus, Ohio, Rita Skierkowski of Michigan City, Indiana. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Marie Skierkowski, Ruth Ann Jacobs.   

Janet retired from St. Anthony Hospital after working there for 40 years as a surgical nurse. She graduated in 1959 from nursing school at Little Company of Mary. She later went on to obtain her bachelor's degree in 1987 from College of St. Francis. Janet was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Michigan City serving in many duties at the church including the parish council, helping to establish the Script Program, and volunteering at church functions. She volunteered at Open Door and belonged to the Tuesday morning golf league. Janet enjoyed traveling, going to the beach, playing golf, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren.
