James M. Stephens, 82, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2024 in Michigan City, Indiana.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am, Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana with  Pastor William Fine officiating. Burial will follow in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City, Indiana with full military honors. Visitation will be from 9:30 am -11:30 am, Tuesday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel.    

He was born June 11, 1942 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late James N. and Maida (Cooksey) Stephens. On October 17, 1970 in California he married Betty M. Holden, who preceded him in death on March 30, 1984.

Surviving are daughter, Deborah (Ryan Neitzel) Stephens of Michigan City, Indiana; two sisters, Sandra Herald of Maumee, Ohio, and Paula Schulte of San Jose, California;  nephews, Tyron Stephens, Michael (Lisa) Herald, Jimmie Schulte, nieces, Tina (Brian) Miller, and Noel along with many great-nieces and great-nephews; He was preceded in death by brother, Larry Stephens;    

Jim retired as Sergeant after 32 years with the Department of Correction (Indiana State Prison).  He was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran having served in Viet Nam.  He enjoying bowling where he participated in many different leagues.  He enjoyed golfing and helping coach girls softball and spent much time of his time volunteering as assistant Boys Scout leader.
