James H. Childers, 74, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 6:18 am in Franciscan Health - Michigan City, Indiana.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, March 14, 2021 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN with Pastor Michael McFarland officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 am -2:00 pm, Sunday, March 14, 2021 at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel.
He was born February 25, 1947 in Michigan City, IN to the late Paul and Lillian (Wentland) Childers. On November 17, 2010 in Michigan City, Indiana he married Cheryl (Gallas) Childers who survives in Michigan City, Indiana.
Also surviving are four daughters, Jill (Emmett Johnson Jr.) Childers of Portage, IN, Catherine (Michael) Myers of Chesterton, IN, Amy (Mark DiGrazia ) Childers of Michigan City, IN, Emily (Brent Renz) Childers of Michigan City, IN; seven grandchildren, Samantha Erny, Angelina Johnson, Savannah Myers, Austin Myers, Carson J. Stitsworth, Alina Renz, Anthony J. DiGrazia; sister, Lucy Thompson of Michigan City, IN; brother, Tony (Sandy) Childers of Michigan City, IN; sister-in-law, Trudy Childers of Westville, IN. He was preceded in death by son, Kevin Childers; brother, Ray Childers.
James, sometimes known as, "Chicmag" or "CoolJC" retired March 31, 2011 after working for 40 years at US Steel. He served in the United States Army from 1967-1968 in the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. James was a bartender at Jim's Tap, Italian Village, and the St. Joseph Club. He enjoyed fishing, playing pool, watching football, and riding motorcycles. James always kept a bible in his car and enjoyed watching and listening to thunderstorms, going golfing with friends, and spending time with his Australian Shepherd mix dog "Shadow".
