Jacob Phillip Povlock
June 25, 1931 - August 30, 2025 

Jacob Phillip "Jack" Povlock was born June 25, 1931 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Jake and Marie (Wisthoff) Povlock. He was the second oldest of ten siblings. 

In his younger years he worked as a pin setter at the bowling alley and also worked at Burnham Glove Factory. Jack went to St. Mary's grade school and graduated in 1949 from St. Mary's High School. In 1950, at nineteen years old, he started working for Indiana Bell Telephone Company. In 1952 he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. As a result of completing a correspondence course in radio repair earlier, in addition to having some knowledge of electrical work from his years with the phone company, he had an aptitude for radio repair and easily passed the entrance exam. Jack did his technical training at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas and worked as a radar repairmen in the Army. The remainder of his time was spent in Washington State. After years in the Army he was rehired to Indiana Bell. He worked as an install man as well as a repairman and after working for the company over forty years, and retired in 1991.

On a Snowy day in February 1957 at St. Mary the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Jack married the love of his life, Kathleen Rae Snook, who proceeded  him in death October 18, 2022. They were married 65 years. Surviving are two children, a son Drew (Becky)  Povlock of Trail Creek and a daughter, Beth (Todd) Pilarski of Indianapolis. Ten grandchildren, Phillip (Rebecca Peters) Povlock of West Lafayette, IN, Bram (Katie) Sanders of Center Point, IN, Joseph (Rebecca) Povlock of Broken Arrow, OK, Amanda Povlock of Michigan City, IN, Margaret (Evan) Grillo of Chicago, IL, Mary LeMay of Brazil, IN, Jake (Karah) Povlock of Niles, MI, Seth (Amanda) Hughes of Harlan, IN, Anthony (Becca) Povlock, Trail Creek, IN, Anna Hughes ( Paul Lantendresse) of Martinsville, IN. Fifteen great-grandchildren, Lane, Maelin, and Sylas Sanders, Madilyn and Bridger LeMay, Penelope and Leopold Sims, Jacob and Charlie Povlock, Noah, Asher and Revan Hughes, Dominic and Jacqueline Grillo, and Owen Povlock; two sisters, Diane Sweeney and Janet Bergeron; three brothers, LaMonte, Daniel and Stephen Povlock. Preceding him in death are two brothers, Joseph Povlock and Lee Povlock; two sisters, Jane Randhan and Marie Polita. 

Jack and his wife Katie were active members of Queen of All Saints Catholic Church where they were instrumental in the founding success of SPARC, a social group for senior members of the parish. Jack was a hard worker and could fix anything including a broken heart with his gentle ways. Jack was a member of the Michigan Rifle Club in the late 1960's and 1970's where he won numerous trophies for bulls eye pistol shooting as a Leftie. In his younger days Jack enjoyed fishing, squirrel, and rabbit hunting, especially with his brother Lee. Jack would often educate his children and grandchildren with his countless stories and memories of his life and experiences and he was quite knowledgeable of the history of Michigan City as well as many other things.  

One of his favorite memories was a trip he took with his brother Lee, where they traced and followed the route of their father and visited many of the locations he had lived and worked while following the harvest on a motorcycle in the early part of the last century. 

We all know that mom was a waiting his arrival at the pearly gates with a long list of things for him to do and he loved it !!   

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, September 4, 2025 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Buffalo & 10th Streets, Michigan City, Indiana. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Michigan City, Indiana. Visitation will be from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, Thursday, September 4, 2025 at the church. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN 46360 is handling arrangements.    

Thank you to the staff of Ignite Medical Resort in Chesterton, Indiana where he spent his final days in hospice and a special thank you to the AMAZING staff at Dunes Hospice Care, especially Sally, Leslie, Pam and Tammy for taking such good care of our father in his final days.
