Hy Lai
March 14, 1934 - January 8, 2026
Hy Lai, born on March 14, 1934, in southern Vietnam, passed away on January 8, 2026, at age 91. A survivor of war in Vietnam, he bravely brought his family to the United States as refugees, sponsored by six families from St. James Catholic Church in Arlington Heights, Illinois. After relinquishing all he owned following the fall of Saigon, he rebuilt his life with determination, working as a groundskeeper for the Arlington Heights Park District. Hy is preceded in death by his wife, Mylan Nguyen, and sons Tai Lai and Duc Lai. He leaves behind and is remembered by his children, Thanh (Anne) Lai, Sen (Hong) Lai, and Hanh (Jeff) Godzik, and eight grandchildren.
Private interment at Ridgewood Memorial Park in Des Plaines, Illinois.
