Hans I. Kunze, 97, Otis, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at 6:33 pm in Oak Woods Manor, LaPorte, IN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, 606 S. Woodland Ave., Michigan City, IN with Rev. Jordan Fetcko officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with full military services conducted by the John Franklin Miller American Legion Post #37. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Monday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN and 9:30 am - 10:00 am Tuesday at the Queen of All Saints Church Legacy Center. A wake service will be conducted at 4:30 pm and the John Franklin Miller Post #37 will conduct a memorial service at 5:00 pm, both Monday in the funeral chapel.

He was born August 27, 1921 in Rustenberg, Germany to the late Karl and Emma (Heinemann) Kunze. On October 3, 1942 in Michgian City, IN he married Mildred "Mitzi" Kuhn who preceded him on October 17, 1972. Then on September 22, 1973 in Michigan City, IN he married Floraine "Flo" Frenzel who preceded him on July 11, 2009.

Surviving are two daughters, Judy (Dan) Piechnik of Hastings, MI and Sandie (Jay) Miller of Otis, IN; son, Boyd (Pat) Kunze of LaPorte, IN; step-son, Rick (Barb) Peo of Michiana Shores, IN; eight grandchildren, Jill (Gabriel) McKelvey, Kristen (Damon) Gonzales, Laura (Mike) MacLeod, Ryan (Anji) Miller, Michael (Janelle) Miller, Meredith (Joe) Attar, Jennifer (Nick) Bergman and Kristy Peo; twelve great-grandchildren, Dillon McKelvey, Leah McKelvey, Mia Gonzales, Ridley Gonzales, Alyssa MacLeod, Ian MacLeod, Zoey Miller, Zachary Miller, Kinley Miller, Shelby Attar, Riley Attar and Emmaliza Bergman; and his best-friend and constant companion, Murphy.

He was also preceded in death by five sisters, Margaret, Elizabeth, Helen, Charlotte and Mary; brother, Karl; and his great-grandson, Austin Endres.

Hans retired as the Vice-President of Industrial Engineering at Jet Fabricators and was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. He received the Silver Star and 5 Bronze Stars for his European Campaigns and the Combat Infantry Badge. Hans was a member of Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, John Franklin Miller American Legion Post #37 and VFW Post #2536. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and camping.
