Florence Shaver passed away on Sunday afternoon, February 3 surrounded by her family. She was 85 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, February 8, 2019 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN with Rev. Dennis Blaney officiating. Private burial will take place in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Thursday and from 10:00 am - 11:00 am Friday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel.

Florence was born in Michigan City on January 11, 1934 to the late Joseph and Theamma Nowfel. She was a 1952 graduate of Elston High School and spent her career with Pullman Standard in Michigan City and Hammond.

Her first husband, Carl Laymon, passed away in 1966. She married William Shaver, who survives, in 1972. She is also survived by daughter Nancy Kendall, son William Shaver Jr (Wendy), 5 grand children, 12 great-grand children, 2 great-great-grand children, many nieces and nephews, sisters Alice Ream Timm of Michigan City and Josephine Nowfel Gazelle of Lansing Michigan. She loved and was loved by them all.

She was also preceded in death by son John Shaver, brothers Philip Nowfel, George Nowfel, and Danny Nowfel, and sisters Selma Nowfel Martinel and Marie Nowfel.

Florence was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Michigan City and volunteered her time, care, and concern to many organizations and groups including The Open Door Clinic and The Service League.
