Florence Dirks, 94, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 16, 2020.

Per her request, donation to anatomical study has taken place and private family entombment will take place in Pine Lake Cemetery Columbarium,  La Porte, Indiana at a later date.  The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana are caring for her arrangements.

She was born October 28, 1926 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Joseph and Victoria (Nowak) Kazmierski.  On November 10, 1951 in Michigan City, Indiana she married John Dirks, Jr.who preceded in death on February 2, 2000.

Surviving are daughter, Victoria (Elmer J.) Konkey of Michigan City, Indiana; two sons, Paul (Bobbie) Dirks of Frankfort, Illinois and Gregory (Vicki) Dirks of La Porte, Indiana; four Grandchildren, Genny (James) Williams, Lorie Dirks, Kevin (Kelly) Dirks and Matthew (Sara) Dirks along with  6 great-grandchildren and her niece Yvonne (Richard) Peeples and her family.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Loretta Smith.  

She graduated from Springfield Township High School in 1944, worked as payroll secretary at Joy Manufacturing, Michigan City, Indiana where she met her future husband, John, and continued working until she started her family.  She was active at St. Stanislaus Kostka School as room mother and as a Cub Scout den mother.  She was a proud Busia to her family.  A long-time past member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, she was currently a member of Queen of all Saints Catholic Church.  
The family acknowledges the recent kindnesses of Franciscan Home Care, both VNA Palliative Care and VNA Hospice Care, Dr. Carol Grobner and Staff, Father Kevin Huber, and many friends with their prayers.  To honor her memory, follow two pieces of her advice: you reap what you sow, and just love one another.
