Donald B. Westphal, 91, Trail Creek, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 12:35 pm in Trail Creek Place, Michigan City, IN.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN. Private burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm, Thursday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel.    

He was born February 6, 1932 in Michigan City, IN to the late William and Catherine (Weaver) Westphal. On May 11, 1955 in Rapid City, SD he married Joan Warn who preceded him on December 3, 2010.

Surviving are a daughter, Joy Walden of Michigan City, IN; four sons, Daryl (Sharon) Westphal of Big Pine Key, FL, Darren (Elizabeth) Westphal of Michigan City, IN, Neil (Shawntel) Westphal of La Porte, IN and Patrick (Michele) Beach of Mishawaka, IN; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and his best-friend, Al Ladd of Michigan City, IN.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lee and William Westphal.   

He retired as a machinist at Midwest Steel. Donald was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. #2536. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, metal-detecting, traveling and going to breweries. The family would like to acknowledge Dunes Hospice and Trail Creek Place Memory Care Unit for the care that was given.
