Donald L. Lewis, 68, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Friday, February 13, 2026, at 10:25 p.m. at Regency Hospital in Portage, Indiana.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Arrangements are being handled by the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington Street, Michigan City, Indiana.
Donald was born November 25, 1957, in South Bend, Indiana, to William and Patricia (Caine) Lewis, who preceded him in death. On May 16, 2014, in Michigan City, he married Debra (Collins) Lewis, who preceded him in death on September 2, 2021.
He is survived by three sisters, Marilyn Lewis, Susan Lewis, and Julia (James) Frame; one brother, Kelly (Jessica) Lewis; four grandchildren, Gabriella, Zayden, Averey, and Elizabeth; two great-grandchildren, Sage and River; his best friend, Joe Burk; as well as twelve nieces and nephews and five great-nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Lewis.
Donald proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1976 to 1980 and was honorably discharged. He retired in 2024 from Cleveland-Cliffs in Burns Harbor, where he worked as a millwright.
He had a passion for racing of all kinds - from flat track and dirt racing to NASCAR - and he especially loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycles and taking drives in his Ford Mustang. Above all, Donald cherished time spent with his family and friends. True to his adventurous spirit, he often said he lived “one hell of a ride.”
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice.
