Dolores A. Hood, 100, Long Beach, Indiana, passed away Monday, September 18, 2023 at 3:29 pm in her home.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 1005 Moore Road, Long Beach, IN with  Rev. Keith McClellan officiating. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.    

She was born August 16, 1923 in Chicago, IL to the late Edwin and Anna (Basil) Lewis. On February 16, 1946 in Chicago, IL, she married Robert G. Hood who preceded her on December 31, 2010.

Surviving are a daughter, Patricia McDonald of Long Beach, IN; son, Robert D. Hood of Long Beach, IN; sister, Georgiana Shinn of Michigan City, IN; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Georgiana Hood.   

She retired as an educator from the Michigan City School System having taught at Niemann Elementary. Dolores was a founding member of Notre Dame Catholic Church and a member of the Notre Dame Rosarians. She enjoyed reading and spending time with family. Dolores volunteered at Fried's Cat Shelter, First United Methodist Church Soup Kitchen and taught adults to read.
