Deacon Daniel L. Bowmar

July 20, 1933 - November 22, 2018

Deacon Daniel L. Bowmar, 85, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2018 at 7:50 am in his home.

Morning Prayers will be held at 9:30 am Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 1506 Washington St., Michigan City, IN followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am with Bishop Donald Hying officiating. Burial will take place in St. Stanislaus Cemetery with full military services conducted by the American Legion Skwiat Post 451 and V.F.W. 2536. Receiving of Deacon Bowmar into church will be held at 4:00 pm Monday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with visitation following until 8:00 pm. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Monday in the church. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.

He was born July 20, 1933 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Theodore and Margurite (Eaton) Bowmar. On June 27, 1959 in Michigan City, IN he married Mary Timm who survives in Michigan City, IN.

Also surviving are three daughters, Elizabeth (Randy) Durham of Michigan City, Indiana, Margaret (Paul) Brandt of Bloomington, Minnesota, and, Monica (Mark) Carter of Indianapolis, Indiana; two sons, Charles (Edie) Bowmar of Las Vegas, Nevada and Edward (Christine) Bowmar of LaPorte, Indiana; six grandchildren, Andrew (Beth) Durham, Melissa (Ryan) Harmon, Justin Brandt, Joshua Brandt, Savannah Bowmar and Kaila (Adam) Casteel; and five great-grandchildren, Abigail Durham, Audrey Durham, Amelia Durham, Maisy Harmon and Blakely Harmon.

He was also preceded in death by his son, Paul Bowmar; three sisters, Donna Otto, Nancy Haggard and Patricia Funk; and eleven brothers, Nelson, James, Arthur, Melvin, Thomas, Randall, Gregory, Gerald, Adrian, Carl and David Bowmar.

Dan worked for 37 years at Joy Mfg as an electrician and then was a custodian for the Michigan City School System. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and a Deacon serving at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church for many years. He was a member of the St. Joseph Young Men's Society, American Legion Skwiat Post 451, International Association of Machinist & Aerospace workers local #1078 and Eucharistic Minister at Franciscan Health-Michigan City. Dan also volunteered at St. Stan's Bingo and St. Joe Bingo for many years and was a Boy Scout Leader.
