David Lee Kempf, 92, La Porte, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Franciscan Health, Michigan City.

He was born on March 5, 1932, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Walter A. and Frances (Bowers) Kempf. 

Mr. Kempf was an entrepreneur and successful businessman owning Kempf Saddle Shop, Kempf Trailer Sales, Kempf Construction and his life-long business of Kempf Gun Shop. David served as a gunnery officer in the Naval Reserves in his younger years. He served as Justice of the Peace in the 1960’s, was a former member of the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Posse, and is a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Michigan City, Indiana. Also, David was a long time member of Michigan City Rifle Club and Endowment Life member of the National Rifle Association.

On February 2, 1952, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, in Michigan City, Indiana, he married Monica (Huppenthal) Kempf, who preceded him in death July 26, 2023. 

David is survived by his children, Wally (Sherri) Kempf, Mark (Yvonne) Kempf, and Susan (Rob) Kempf; along with grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Monica Kempf; and one daughter, Kimberly Nash.  

A private family service to be held at a later date. Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, is handling the arrangements.
