Darlene Gillespie, 58, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2023 at 9:11 am in her home.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, May 12, 2023 at High Praise Outreach Ministries, 301 E. 9th St., Michigan City, IN with Apostle Javaughn Blakely officiating. Private burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.
She was born January 18, 1965 in Michigan City, IN. to Ethel Gillespie.
Darlene grew up in Michigan City, where she accepted Christ at a very young age at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. She was a self proclaimed “fashionista” and you couldn’t tell her otherwise. Darlene knew no strangers and had a heart of Gold.
Surviving are two sisters, Barbara Gillespie and Cindy Gillespie, both of Michigan City, IN; two brothers, Scotty Gillespie of Louisville, KY and Curtis (Kosher) Gillespie of Michigan City, IN; two aunts, Ethel Lou Akins of La Porte, IN, and Corrine Gillespie of Michigan City, IN; niece, Kelli Turner of Jacksonville, FL; three nephews, Kurtess (Ameenah) Gillespie of Michigan City, IN, Cortland Gillespie of Michigan City, IN and Nicholas Rachel of Indianapolis, IN; two special cousins, Wanda Akins of La Porte, IN and Sheila Bonds of Indianapolis, IN; goddaughter, Penny Battles of Michigan City, IN; special longtime friend, Shenease Cooley of Ohio; and Lynn Gore of Indianapolis, and a host of other family and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel M. Gillespie; niece, Simone Bush; maternal grandparents, Roy and Fannie Mae Gillespie; two uncles, Elroy Gillespie and Otis Akins; and cousin, Larry Burke Pittman.
Darlene had worked as a nurses aide and was a member of her beloved church High Praise Outreach Ministries. She enjoyed Facebook and studying her bible.
