Daniel A. Nieding, 85, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Friday, September 22, 2023 at 4:36 pm in his home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 am, Saturday, September 30, 2023 at St. Mary's Church/Otis, 101 N. Church St., Otis, IN with Rev. John Zemelko officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 am - 11:00 am Saturday, at the Church. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.    

He was born October 28, 1937 in Cincinnati, OH to the late Herman and Marie (Pfaffinger) Nieding. On September 24, 1960 in New Richmond, OH he married Marlene Ernst who survives in Michigan City, IN.

Also surviving are a son, Mark (Aurora) Nieding of Savoy, IL; daughter, Melissa (Scott) Twyman of Wilmette, IL; four grandchildren, Freddy Ernst, Leo Strauss, Eli Strauss and Matthew Twyman; and two sisters, Corrine Abella of Beaver Creek, OH and Mary Lee Deters of Lake Waynoka, OH.

He was also preceded in death by a grandson, William Twyman; sister, Arlene Zuleger; brother, George Pfaffinger; and was lovingly raised by the late, William and Eleanor Pfaffinger.  

He retired as a production manager at Jaymar Ruby and was a religious Education teacher at St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, both in Michigan City, IN, an aide for Michigan City Job Works and a defensive driver instructor for AARP. Daniel was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church/Otis, IN, Lakeshore Barbershop Chorus, Michigan City Community Choir and many church choirs. He also enjoyed playing golf and was an avid Chicago Bears fan.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church/Otis for masses to be said for Daniel at St. Mary's Church/Otis, P.O. Box 386, Wanatah, IN 46390 .
