Claude "Shug" Brooks, 84, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2020 at Vista Medical Center - East, Waukegan, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 6, 2020 at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 717 E. 10th Street, Michigan City, IN with Rev. James Lane officiating. Private burial will take place in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, Saturday at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. The family requests that CDC guidelines be followed and face masks are required. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.

He was born May 16, 1936 in Fork Ridge, TN to the late Frank and Helen (Lipscomb) Brooks. He married Shirley (Clemons) and together they had five children.

Surviving are two daughters, Trudi Brooks Crawford of Texas and Yvonna (David) Lemieux of Milwaukee, WI; three sons, Shelton (Layla) Brooks of Phoenix, AZ, Lamont (Kara) Brooks, Sr. of Phoenix, AZ and Maurice (Rhonda) Clemons of Milwaukee, IN; three brothers, Raymond (Paulette) Brooks of Birmingham, AL, Donald (Mary) Brooks of Michigan City, IN and Kenneth (Sandra) Roberts of Austin, TX; two sisters, Joann Brooks of Little Rock, AR, and Juanita Brooks of Sacramento, CA; uncle, James Lipscomb of Kingsford Heights, IN; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, James Brooks and Lewis Brooks; three sisters, Ruth Brooks, Evelyn Buchanan and Betty Jean Turner; and his grandchild, Lamont Brooks, Jr.

Claude had worked at Joy Mfg. and retired as a supervisor at Remy Batteries. He graduated from Union Township High School in Kingsford Heights and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran.
