Christopher "Chris" Kolasa Obituary

Christopher "Chris" Warren Kolasa

December 23, 1955 - May 22, 2024

Christopher "Chris" Warren Kolasa, 68, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 12:16 p.m., in VNA Hospice Center, Valparaiso, Indiana.

Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2024 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral chapel.

He was born on December 23, 1955, in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Henry and Dorothy (Uselton) Kolasa. On February 23, 1980, in Knox, Indiana, he married Connie Ann (Bailey) Kolasa, who survives in Michigan City. Chris and Connie had four children: two boys and two girls.

Chris is survived by his four children, Samantha Garner, Andrew (Amanda) Kolasa, Keanan Kolasa, and Tashia Kolasa all of Michigan City, Indiana. He leaves behind nine grandchildren, Andre, Keenan, Justin, Aubree, Kyla, Ameah, Andy Jr., Maria, and Jontez; and two great-grandchildren, A'meera and Alaysia.

Also surviving are his two brothers, Ronnie (Gail) Kolasa of Florida and Tom (Debbie) Kolasa of Pennsylvania; and one sister, Norma Jean Sofranko of Michigan City, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Norman Kolasa, Paul Kolasa, and Stanley Kolasa; and one grandson, Justin Garner.

Chris formerly worked for Swan Lake Cemetery, Michigan City. He then decided to do something different in 1985. Chris became well known for Trashman at Your Service, Mr. Clean Gutters, and Kolasa & Son Excavating. He was always working, that was all he thought of. Having to stay busy all the time and could never sit down. Chris would do anything and everything for his kids and grandkids. He enjoyed going camping and spending time with the grandkids, watching them grow up. His real dream was operating his food cart, but the bone cancer would not let him. Chris would help anyone, anytime if he could. He had a big heart and was motivated to help others.

He was truly a jack of all trades and could fix and think of all kinds of MacGyver tricks all day long. If you knew Chris, you would know what we are talking about. Just a great guy all the way around. His only downfall was he always worked in pain but tried not to let the pain and cancer take over. Chris was a strong-willed man but lost the battle, passing away from painful bone cancer. Chris will be missed dearly.
