Charlotte M. Wentland 
August 15, 1929 – April 16, 2026 

 
Charlotte M. Wentland, Indianapolis, IN formerly of Michigan City, IN, passed unexpectedly but peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday morning, April 16th at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.  

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am April 27, 2026 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 1506 Washington Street, Michigan City, IN with Reverend Walter Rakoczy officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm, Sunday, April 26, 2026 at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN and from 9:30 am – 10:00 am Monday at the church. The St. Stanislaus Rosary Society will recite the Rosary at 3:30 pm Sunday in the funeral chapel.   

She was born August 15,1929 in Chicago, IL to the late Charles and Josephine (Grinis) Latsch. On September 14,1957 in Michigan City, IN she married Donald F. Wentland who preceded her in death on July 13, 2022.    

Surviving are three daughters, Kathleen (Glenn) Lubeznik, of Indianapolis, IN and Marco Island, FL, Mary Theresa (Thomas) Carr of Michigan City, IN Christine M. (Timothy) Kelly of Indianapolis, IN. Grandchildren, Sarah Carr Bruder (Jake) Loveland, CO, Zachary Carr (Jenny Sewell), Fort Collins, CO, Luke Carr (McCormick) Indianapolis, IN, Mary Catharine Carr Skinner (Michael) Fishers, IN, Anna Kelly Taylor (Zachary), Fishers, IN, John Walter "Jack" Kelly (Sophie Postma) Denver, CO, Kurt Eisele (Kari), Indianapolis, IN, Sam Lubeznik (Erika) Chesterton, IN, Jesse Lubeznik Tunstall (DuShawn) Fishers, IN and Great-Grandchildren, Amos, Blake, twins Stella & Cole Bruder; Rosie,  Lucy and baby sister (7/26) Carr; Oliver, Madeline, Charlie and Maisie Bea Skinner; Hallie Charlotte Taylor; Rory and baby sister (5/26) Eisele; Caleb, Liam and Landen Lubeznik.    

In addition, her sister Patricia (Edward) Thibeault, Southport, NC and dedicated nieces and nephews, Robert Przybylinski, Charlotte Przybylinski, Celeste Van Etten, Mark Przybylinski, all of Michigan City, IN, Damian Przybylinski, Port Charlotte, FL, Charles Przybylinski, Chicago, IL and Pamela Przybylinski, Chesterton, IN. Also, other nieces, nephews plus great nieces and great nephews.  

She was preceded by her sister Stella Przybylinski and brother Peter Portock.  In addition, great grandson, Amos Bruder (March 19, 2019-August 2, 2019) is being interred with his great Busia.   

Charlotte began her career at Bauer & Black Company in Chicago, IL.  While her children were in school, she worked for many years as a seamstress at Regal Drapery in Michigan City, IN.  She volunteered as a Girl Scout Troop Leader. She was a long time member of St. Stanislaus Church, the Rosary Society and Co-Founder of the St. Stanislaus Memorial Church Gardens. She volunteered as the church sacristan maintaining the altar, the priest and the altar servers’ garments. In addition, she  restored religious statues in multiple area churches. She was an active member at the Michigan City Senior Center in Washington Park and participated in the ceramic program for years. She was a poll worker for national, state and city elections.  While she lived in Michigan City, she was known as the “Mayor of Ripley Street” in her neighborhood. Travel was an imminent part of her life with family and friends especially going to Notre Dame football games.  Charlotte enjoyed crocheting, quilting, ceramics, diamond art, watercolor painting and bingo.  In recent years, she enjoyed living in Indianapolis where she saw her grandchildren and great grandchildren on a regular basis. She had the opportunity to taste new cuisine, attend Mass at different Catholic Churches and experience the metropolitan attractions.  As a legacy to her family, she shared the significance of kindness, compassion and volunteerism which her family embraces and carries on today.
