Charles Sass, Jr., 81, Portage, IN, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at 6:58 am in his home.

Private family services will be conducted. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.    

He was born July 4, 1944 in Michigan City, IN to the late Charles and Virginia (Geyer) Sass, Sr. On February 19, 1977 in Michigan City, IN he married Kathleen Glancy who survives in Portage.

Also surviving are daughter, Kristy (Delbert, Jr.) Sammelman of Michigan City, IN; son, Brian (Paulette) Manthey of Michigan City, IN; three grandchildren, Evan Ewy, Jillian Ewy and Brianna (Justin) Miranda; two great-grandchildren, Adaline and Violet; three sisters-in-law, Pat Russell of Portage, IN, Sue (John) Harmon of Michigan City, IN and Doris Sass of Princeton, NC;and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Penny Garbacik and Barbara Braddy; and two brothers, Louis Sass and Walter "Pete" Sass.   

Charles had worked as an auto mechanic and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of the American Legion Skwiat Post 451. Charles enjoyed yard work, NASCAR, going to the beach, decorating for Christmas and being with his friends.
